Pregnancy & Piercings

Can I get a piercing when I am pregnant?

The answer is that we highly do not recommend getting a piercing once you find out that you are pregnant. Even if you think that you handle pain well, or even enjoy it, what happens internally is a different story. Elevated heart rate and adrenaline are not healthy for growing babies, so until the little one is born it is not advised that you get any piercing of any sort

Do I have to remove my belly button piercing when I get pregnant?

Absolutely not! You can continue to wear your piercing as normal for the first few months. As you belly begins to grow, we recommend purchasing a pregnancy navel ring to accommodate your changing body! Made out of bioflex with a much longer shaft, pregnancy navel rings can be worn by most people all the way through the pregnancy. *If your piercing starts to reject and the skin gets thin at any point, consider taking the piercing out and waiting until after baby is born to get re-pierced

Can I get my belly button re-pierced after having a baby?

Yes! Discuss options with your piercer such as either going through the original scar tissue or getting pierced behind the scar tissue. Going through the scar tissue will hurt more than the original piercing but has a very low rejection rate and often heals quicker than the original piercing did. Going behind the scar tissue, if possible, also provides a piercing with a very low rejection rate. Ask your piercer which option is best for you!

Can I still breast feed if I have had my nipples pierced?

There is no hard yes or hard no on this one. It all depends on the location of the piercing in the nipple and your body. Some women report that they are able to nurse quite effectively afterwards, while some women are not able to. The sooner you take your piercings out after learning you are pregnant, the better the odds become. Time will tell whether or not you are able to, but having had them pierced is not necessarily an end to breast feeding, if that is what you choose. Talk to your doctor about any concerns you may have or consult a lactation consultant in your area.
